Kanye Youth Business Expo organisation has proposed to name the youth centre they intend to construct in Tsopye dam after the late former president Sir Ketumile Masire.

The organisation chairperson, Mr Moutlakgola Masire said in an interview after presentation to Kanye Administrative Authority councillors recently, that they proposed the name because of immense contribution by Sir Ketumile Masire to the country’s development and for also being an outstanding Kanye ambassador.

“Sir Ketumile Masire is the highest achiever to ever come from our village and we strongly believe he should be honoured in Kanye, and if the proposed name is successful, the centre will be named Sir Ketumile Masire Recreational Park and Fitness Centre,” he said.

He explained that the youth centre would include an outdoor fitness centre, children playground, and ablution block with changing rooms, a café and outdoor five aside pitches serving different purposes such as social and community competitions, training, after school soccer class programmes.

He stated that the centre would benefit the residents by encouraging participation in sport and physical activitieand promoting social inclusion, preventing delinquency and idling amongst the youth.

He mentioned following consulting the council and other stakeholders, they would go to Sir Ketumile Masire Foundation and family to hold further discussions.

Mr Masire pleaded with the council to support their organisation in planning and organising upcoming youth business expos and assist with resources for marketing and advertising among others.

He said the objective of their expo was to instil an entrepreneurial spirit among the youth, government, community organisations and businesses, inclusion of youth in the future development agenda through consultations and discussions.

For their part councillors pledged their support to the project. 

Ms Lindiwe Ntingana advised the youth  to look to vision 2036 and local economic development plans and align their proposal or activities with national ideals.

She commended their effort saying the idea had the potential to benefit the residents and sustain the economy of Kanye. ENDS
