Marriage lifetime covenant - expert

29 Aug 2018

The director of Career Counselling Centre at the University of Botswana and marriage counsellor Dr Lucky Odirile says marriage is a life time covenant that requires commitment from both parties.

Dr Odirile said this on August 25 during marriage enrichment  seminar hosted by Panache Events in Rasesa.

She said marriage was an institution ordained by God for people to enjoy it and live happier and should be given respect at all times.

“God instituted marriage to be enjoyed therefore it is our responsibility to make it enjoyable and to respect the institution at all times”, she said.

However, Dr Odirile said the institution seemed to be losing its dignity because people married for wrong reasons.

Dr Odirile advised that couples should get into marriage for love since love was the foundation of a happy home.

She further urged the married couples who attended the enrichment to love each other daily and to trust each other in order to nurture their marriage and to keep it strong.

Furthermore, Dr Odirile encouraged couples to raise their children under God’s law  saying it would  help their children to  desist from undesirable behaviour.

When outlining objectives of the event, the organiser, Mr Phatsimo Rankgo said the event’s aim was to discuss marital challenges and come up with ways to tackle them.

He said  since divorce rate was on the increase, they decided to come up  with the idea to gather couples, young and old in marriage to discuss issues they were faced with in their marriage.

“Despite the challenges that we face as married people, we should enjoy this institution because God made it for us to enjoy it,” said Mr Rankgo.

Furthermore, he said the marriage enrichment workshop was to empower married couples and those who desired to get married by sharing ideas and experiences on how have good marriages.

For his part,  Kgosi Letshwenyo Rasesa  of Rasesa appreciated the Panache Events for hosting the enrichment workshop  because it was  educational and informative for married couples.

He said even though the county had high rates of divorce, marriage was an institution meant to build families.

Kgosi Rasesa encouraged the organisers to host the enrichment annually so that more people could attend in large numbers and learn more about marriage. ENDS
