Agreement does not deny govt say

The Minister of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security, Mr Eric Molale says the shareholders agreement between government and Botswana Ash Limited does not deny the government a say in the management of Botash. He said the agreement provides for equal voting rights between government of Botswana and its joint shareholders, now Chlor Alkali as both shareholders have the right to appoint the same number of directors to the board. Additionally, all board members resolutions including on appointments of senior executives management positions require approval from a majority of directors from each of the parties.
Therefore the minister said it was not true that government was denied a say in the management of BOTASH. Mr Molale noted that all mining and accompanying sales agreements that exists between government and mining houses were periodically reviewed or re-negotiated. Answering a question in Parliamenton Monday , Minister Molale noted the key factor in negotiating agreement was for BOTASH to immediately come into operation following liquidation of Soda Ash Botswana. Member of Parliament for Lobatse Mr Sadique Kebonang, had asked the minister if it wag true that shareholders’ agreement of Botswana Ash denied overnment any say in the management of BOTASH. BOPA
