Sebina clinic toilets problematic

26 Jul 2013

The Assistant Minister of Health, Mr Gaotlhaetse Matlhabaphiri says an in-depth assessment had to be done to fully understand the causes of the repeated breakdowns of the toilets in Sebina, which has contributed to the delay in resolving the issue.

Answering a question in Parliament on July 24 from the MP for Tonota North, Mr Fidelis Molao, the assistant minister said the assessment has indicated that the sewerage pipes need evacuation and replacement.

Mr Matlhabaphiri explained that procurement of all necessary materials is on-going and plans are to have evacuated and replaced all the old pipes by the end of September 2013.

He said the facility staff continued to ensure that provision of quality health care services is not compromised adding that whilst not ideal, there is a pit latrine that is currently in use.

The minister said he is not aware whether this scenario prevails in the whole country.

MP Molao had asked the minister what has caused the delay in resolving the Sebina Clinic toilet issues which have been ongoing for over 12 months. He had also asked whether the current situation is not detrimental to the provision of quality health care in the area and whether this scenario obtains in the whole country. ENDS
