Lady Khama Trust assists Camphill

26 Jun 2018

Fourth President, Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama has handed over a therapy centre to Camphill Community Trust in Otse on June 25.

The former president, who is also the patron of the Lady Khama Charitable Trust, said handing over the health and wellness centre showed that they cared about the needs of those assisted at Camphill.

He said Lady Khama Charitable Trust had its footprints in other parts of the country where it helped people living with disabilities and the disadvantaged.

Lt Gen. Dr Khama said Lady Khama Trust was still receiving requests and they were willing to offer support as they took pride in helping other Batswana who were in need of their support.

Lady Khama Charitable Trust chairperson, Mr Dale Ter Harr said the two Trusts enjoyed a strong and growing relationship that  dates far back.

He stated that Lady Khama Charitable Trust scope of beneficiaries had now been broadened from disadvantaged women and children to women and children living with disabilities.

“An additional area of increased focus for the Trust is on people living with albinism,” he stated.

He said every person living with albinism was considered visually impaired because of their short-sightedness that was a consequence of the condition.

“People living with albinism are also at a very high risk of skin cancer,” he said.

He added that about 2 000 people in the country were estimated to be living with albinism, the reason why the trust wanted to have a profound positive impact on people living with albinism.

He also said Lady Khama Charitable Trust was committed to supporting South East Sports Association for the Disabled (SESAD).

He said the Trust has issued SESAD with a grant to build Botswana’s first recreational park designed to be entirely accessible to people living with disabilities.

He also stated that the intention of the park was to promote recreational, sport and wellness activities for people living with disabilities.

Earlier on, Kgosi Mothusi Tsetse of Otse thanked Lady Khama Charitable Trust for their effort in helping Camphill Community Trust.

He stated that Camphill Community Trust had grown over the years to accommodate learners from afar.

He, therefore, said if funds were permitting, the Trust could open other facilities in those areas to cater from those afar from Otse. ENDS
