Education needs dedication - official
25 Jun 2018
The education manager for Orapa, Letlhakane and Damtshaa Mines, Ms Riana Robinson says education needs dedication and unwavering commitment by all stakeholders.
Mrs Robinson said this when officiating at the Boteti Sub-district regional excellence awards held in Letlhakane recently.
She said awards were meant to acknowledge and appreciate the impact of learning, teaching and non-teaching staff.
She said government’s goal was to have all boys and girls complete free, equitable and quality primary and secondary education by 2030, which she said, was consistent with the ideals of Vision 2036.
Ms Robinson said the aspirations of Vision 2036 were for Botswana to have a knowledgeable society, with relevant quality education that was outcome based, with an emphasis on technical and vocational skills as well as academic competence.
She said this year’s theme: ‘Turning Challenge into Strategies as we vie for Vision 2036’ tied well with the ministry’s goals, which were adequately encapsulated within the 11 key strategic areas in the Education Training Sector Strategic Plan (ETSSP).
She added that there was need to seriously address issues of quality, relevance and accountability across the entire education sector from pre-primary to tertiary level.
She further said ETSSP espoused today’s learner to gain the aptitude, to find information, to conceive ideas, to make informed decisions, to manage resources and to be able to communicate and collaborate, so as to become an asset to any organisation.
Ms Robinson said ‘for us to realise a brighter future for our country, we must collaborate with other stakeholders in education’ and thus encouraged the business community to be active in schools and participate actively in achieving the desired goals.
Ms Robinson said Debswana demonstrated its commitment to the development of education in this country, through its Corporate Social Investment programme.
Boteti Sub education officer, Mr Centy-Saint Sebopelo said the objectives of the day were to reward excellence identified in the sub region, as well as to showcase and reward high performing individuals.
Councillor for Letlhakane South, Mr Aaron Baitsimang said it was essential for all stakeholders to play their part in children’s education. He also appreciated teachers’ dedication and sacrifice. ENDS
