DPS advises staff to be innovative

Department of Information Services employees have been advised to be innovative and to understand that they have a mandate to fulfill.
Speaking at the development of a strategy and annual performance plan on June 19, deputy permanent secretary for information and broadcasting services in the Ministry for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Bome Matshaba said it was essential for them to explore new ways of attracting clients to their publications.
Mr Matshaba advised them to introduce live streaming and websites, emphasising that the need to revamp the DailyNews was important in order to beat competition.
The deputy permanent secretary cited social media among others as a threat to traditional media. He advised them to find ideas which could thrive in the digital era. He also said the need for the development of a strategy was imperative, as they had a role to carry forward.
Mr Matshaba noted staff challenges such as progression, and commended staff for their dedication towards work despite the challenges and the increased workload.
Information services head of the department in Maun, Mr Sefhako Sefhako welcomed suggestions from Mr Matshaba and agreed on the need to revamp the online DailyNews and Kutlwano magazine to attract readership.
Mr Sefhako also said it was imperative for the department to address staff welfare issues, saying it could boost their morale. ENDS
