District authorities have been asked to rally behind President Mokgweetsi Masisi’s roadmap which aims at removing impediments that frustrate doing business in Botswana.

The call was made by Permanent Secretary to the President Mr Carter Morupisi when addressing policy implementers in Gaborone recently.

Mr Morupisi said President Masisi had emphasised the need to immediately do away with impediments towards doing business in the country.

He told his listeners that they were better placed to know the impediments and regulations that should be removed in order to serve the business community and the general public well.

He gave the district authorities until  the end of this month to have submitted all their suggested impediments deemed necessary to be removed from the system.

PSP said it was critical for local authorities to work closely with permanent secretaries and aim for excellence in everything they did.

Mr Morupisi, who emphasised that Botswana should be globally competetive, said it was equally important that public officers served with a smile.

For their part, the district authorities concurred with PSP that there was need to remove impediments negating doing business in the country.

They mentioned paperwork accompanied by the filling of endless forms as one such impediment.

They further decried the slackness within the civil service which they attributed to unfavourable working conditions.

PSP was accompanied by permanent secretaries including Mr Colley Monkge of Basic Education; acting director of DPSM Mr Molefi Keaja; Mr Boipelelo Khumomatlhare of Local Government and Rural Development; Mr

Jimmy Opelo from Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food Security and Ministry for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration Mr Thato Ramodimoosi.

Attendants included district commissioners, district officers, agricultural chiefs, education directors, social and community development officers, tribal administrators and council secretaries among others. ENDS
