Boteti Brigade has 18 lecturers 112 students

Minister of Employment, Labour Productivity and Skills Development has informed Parliament that Boteti Brigade has a teaching staff compliment of 18 lecturers, four of which teach borehole mechanics, six bricklaying, four carpentry and joinery while four teach business studies.
Answering a question in Parliament recently, Mr Mabeo said the institution had enrolled a total of 112 students, 38 of which study borehole mechanics, 36 bricklaying, 21 carpentry and joinery while 17 study business studies.
He said there were two vacant posts at Boteti Brigade, which had been vacant for over a month (38 days) and were anticipated to be filled by September.
Further, he said progression for non-teaching staff was dependent on availability of posts and performance.
He said for teaching staff there were no vacant posts since seven posts seven officers were filled in May 2018.
On staff accommodation, the minister said Boteti Brigade had 20 houses that have all been occupied and currently there are no plans to build additional houses due to resource constraints and therefore, those who have not been allocated houses are encouraged to seek alternative accommodation.
He said mine related courses had been introduced in Boteti Brigade, which included welding and fabrication, coded welding, rigging, conveyor belt maintenance and heavy plant operator.
These courses, he said would commence during 2018/19 academic year.
Boteti East MP, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe had asked minister to apprise Parliament about the status of Boteti Brigade considering staffing per subject, programmes offered and student enrollment.
Mr Lelatisitswe had also wanted to know the number of vacant posts and length of time the posts had remained vacant and why they were not filled as well as the progression of non-teaching and teaching officers at the brigade as well as staff accommodation. ENDS
