Govt delivers on service provision

17 Jun 2018

Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Machana Shamukuni says government remains committed to improving the welfare of Botswana.

He said during an occasion to hand over 62 goats to beneficiaries at Machana kgotla in Machana on June 14 that ever since independence, government has come up with a lot of interventions geared towards improving the wellbeing of the entire citizenry.

“Ever since being entrusted with power in 1966, government continues to strive to better your lives,” he said.

Also, the Chobe legislator told residents that President Mokgweetsi Masisi was as committed as ever to fast track social welfare packages with the sole aim of ousting abject poverty.

“Since assuming power, President Masisi has unflinchingly challenged cabinet to recommit and improve the speed and efficiency with which we provide such assistance,” he said.

He stated that from 2011 to date, government had disbursed over P1 billion worth of poverty eradication packages.

That withstanding, Mr Shamukuni called upon beneficiaries to embrace the gesture by government and maximise benefits out of the program.

His words were echoed by Kgosi Mogotsi Marotwane of Machana who showered government with praises for bringing plentiful developments in his village.

“This is purely a noble gesture by government and we will forever remain indebted,” he said calling on beneficiaries to reciprocate by taking proper care of the animals.

Giving motivation, Ms Bene Tshukudu challenged beneficiaries to follow in her foot steps and work very hard to ensure improved livelihoods.

“I am a beneficiary of the same programme and have achieved a lot through proceeds derived from the scheme since 2013. I have managed to build myself a self-contained four roomed house with electricity and water system,” she said.

Area Councilor, Banewamang Maruamoatsile was also gratified that Machana was receiving a lot of developments.

He shared other speakers’ sentiments and implored beneficiaries to take care of the animals so that in future they could be able to stand on their own. ENDS
