Ntlhantlhe residents plead for mini-stadium
17 Jun 2018
Ntlhantlhe residents in the Kanye North constituency have requested government to build the planned mini-stadium in their village.
Speaking during a consultative meeting addressed by Kanye Administrative Authority economic planner, Ms Keabetswe Kgaswane recently, they said Ntlhantlhe was accessible to all villages in the constituency hence proximity should be taken into consideration.
Addressing residents, Ms Kgaswane said Kanye North constituency was among the 10 constituencies that had been allocated a mini-stadium.
The mini-stadium comprises of a football pitch with artificial grass, a track for athletics, volley ball pitch, netball pitch, toilets, changing rooms, kiosk and metal stands that can accommodate 200 people.
Ms Kgaswane said the planned facility would help promote sportsmanship, encourage healthy living through exercising and unveil talents from the grassroot level in constituencies.
The consultative meeting was aimed at soliciting suggestions from constituents on the suitable place where the mini-stadium should be built.
Ms Kgaswane advised them to select a place with high-quality soil, good quality roads, electricity and that does not have water shortage.
Residents of Ntlhantlhe said they wanted the mini-stadium to be built in their village.
Kgosi Malepa Orekeng of Ntlhantlhe said his village was idea because it had electricity, low water shortage and better roads compared to other villages in the constituency.
He said Kanye was not the ideal place for the mini-stadium as a bigger stadium had been planned for the village under National Development Plan 11.
Kgosi Orekeng noted that Kanye North included Ranaka, Magotlhwane, Kgomokasitwa, Moshaneng, Lekgolobotlo, Kanye Ntsweng ward and Ntlhantlhe.
He argued that Ntlhantlhe was in the centre and would be accessible to all residents.
“Ntlhantlhe has a civic centre which is used by Ranaka, Magotlhwane, Lekgolobotlo, and Kgomositwa residents. Ntlhantlhe is also more developed than other villages in the constituency,” he added.
Residents concurred with their leader that Ntlhantlhe was the best location.
One resident, Mr Keogile Masole said the facility would be used productively, as they would spend most of their time and energy at the grounds, thereby diverting many from bad habits such as drug and alcohol abuse as well as stealing. He commended government for promoting sports in rural areas.
Mr Patse Mothupi encouraged Ntlhantlhe residents to work together with other people from Kanye North for the betterment of the constituency.
He said team spirit would help them come up with a place that would benefit all constituents.
The councillor for Ntlhantlhe-Lekgolobotlo, Mr John Taolo also agreed with residents that Ntlhantlhe was the perfect place for the mini-stadium.
He urged leaders to prepare reasons to convince others that Ntlhantlhe was the best location. Ends
