No plots reserved for residential at Makgaba - Moipisi
14 Jun 2018
Assistant Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi says there are no plots that are reserved for residential purposes in Makgaba.
Instead, he said there were 302 residential plots which were found and recorded after the recognition of the settlement in 2017, and explained that the residents were not issued with certificates.
He said it followed community consultations in which both parties agreed that the plots ought to be realigned properly to create roads and open spaces.
Furthermore, Mr Moipisi told Parliament that the delay in issuing certificates was due to the fact that an integrated land use plan for Mmatshumo, Mosu, Mmea, Mokubilo and Makgaba was still under preparation as part of deliveries under the sustainable land management Makgadikgadi project undertaken by Bird Life Botswana in conjunction with Ngwato Land Board.
As to whether there were plots that had been reserved for other purposes, Mr Moipisi said that the land board had after recognition of the settlement in 2017 recorded six civic and community plots, eight commercial, one lodge, one dam, one borehole and 12 masimo.
“When business plots are available, the land board will reserve land for youth and any other deserving categories of people,” he said.
Mr Moipisi said Makgaba was considered as a RAD settlement and that plot allocation would be based on the Affirmative Action Policy which stated that residents should be given priority in land allocation.
The MP for Boteti East, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe had asked the minister to state the number of plots reserved for residential purposes in Makgaba, and whether residents had been issued with their land certificates, if not, what caused the delay and when the issue would be resolved. ENDS
