Ministry plans to upgrade post offices

13 Jun 2018

Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Kitso Mokaila, says his ministry has developed Postal Infrastructural Development Programme to upgrade, refurbish, remodel and develop post offices in all major towns and cities.

Answering a question in parliament on Tuesday, Mr Mokaila said the main stumbling block in the implementation of the programme was lack of funding, which could not be accommodated under the NDP 11.

He said he was aware of the status of Maitengwe and Tutume Post Offices which were old and small, and the need to expand them given the increase in population and the wide array of services provided at them.

He however noted that this status was not unique to Maitengwe and Tutume but applied to all other post offices across the country.

Member of Parliament for Nkange Mr Edwin Batshu had asked the minister when post offices in Maitengwe and Tutume would be expanded.

Meanwhile, Mr Mokaila also told parliament still on Tuesday that the Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing Development has been recruiting for vacant C Band positions from the DPSM unemployed graduates’ database, and upon acceptance of offer of employment by the graduates, the directorate was immediately informed.

Answering on behalf of  Dr Unity Dow, he explained that DPSM received copies of promotion letters as proof of progression of employees.

Therefore, Mr Mokaila added, the ministry had been fully complying with the contents of the Directive number 6 of 2008, which mainly informs ministries on the purpose for multiple grading and multi titling of C Band positions, which among others included faster progression of officers who qualified for promotion.

MP for Ramotswa Mr Samuel Rantuana had asked the minister whether his ministry had been submitting staff progress reports to the DPSM regarding C Band progression as one of the requirements of the Directive Number 6 of 2008. ENDS
