After realising that pregnancy was rampant in schools, facilitators of a CATCH (Community Acting Together to Control HIV/AIDS) programme went on a campaign to alert children about the impact of teenage pregnancy in relation to HIV/AIDS.

Speaking at Borotsi Primary School, the programme facilitator, Ms Gositang Nyamba shared that it was crucial for pupils to abstain from sexual practices. She said such sexual practices hindered pupils’ education and could end up jeopardising their future.

Ms Nyamba, who is also a member of Motsogapele organisation said that falling pregnant at a young age creates problems for teenage mothers as they could not support their children due to lack of finances as well as that their bodies are not strong enough to carry the pregnancy.

Ms Nyamba reflected that involvement of children into sexual practices increased their chances of contracting HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted disease as most of the pupils did not know anything about protection.

Furthermore, Ms Nyamba stressed that alcohol and drug abuse was common among the youth, but she highlighted that they had engaged in the campaign to teach the youth the impact of alcohol and drugs abuse.

She added that criminal cases in Bobonong and across the country were perpetrated by the use of alcohol and drugs, especially by youth. Ends
