Lerala/Maunatlala leadership has praised government programmes for eradicating poverty and empowering residents of their respective villages to be self-reliant.
In an interview, Kgosi Phoophoo Mapena of Maunatlala said programmes such as Ipelegeng, Tirelo Setshaba and cluster committees had done a tremendous transformation in his village. He noted that most of those engaged in the programmes executed the duties assigned with utmost enthusiasm and at the same time getting an allowance.
Kgosi Mapena noted that through the programmes, he had seen his residents show their leadership skills.
He said the ability to work under minimal supervision was evident, adding that some people had ended up getting permanent jobs.
He said it was through those programmes that his village had seen growth and development, as most people no longer saw the need to migrate to cities for employment. He said many stayed behind and contributed to the change and development of the village.
Kgosi Comet Baitlhapi of Mosweu could not stop singing praises to government, noting that through the Youth Development Fund and Poverty Eradication Programme, the dignity of his people had been restored.
Kgosi Baitlhapi stated that they had seen a decrease in the number of those registered with t social workers because residents had been accorded the means to fend for their families.
He noted that residents were now in a position to give back to the community as they showed the spirit of compassion towards the less fortunate, hence bridging the gap between the rich and the poor in their community.
Kgosi Gomolemo Molebatsi of Majwaneng hammered the last nail to the praises already being sang by his fellow partners in the throne.
He said through government initiatives such as the Cluster Policing Programme, they had been in a position to detect and prevent criminals from committing crimes, thereby making their village a safe and secure place that could be envied by potential investors.
Kgosi Molebatsi applauded Youth Development Fund (YDF) officers for the selfless time they put in their work to ensure that the programme information reached even those in rural areas and encouraged the youth to take up the programme.
The officers, he said, were doing a great job, as they were able to take the youth step by step through the requirements of the programme to ensure that their efforts bore fruit.
“The pride of a nation lies in the growth and development of small villages and with these government programmes the road to development has been mapped out,” he said. ENDS
