Shamukuni urges employees to deliver quality

Working as a team will improve the performance of the Ministry of Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, says assistant minister, Mr Machana Shamukuni.

   Speaking during the ministry’s excellence awards in Gaborone on June 8, Mr Shamukuni urged departments leadership to promote a conducive environment for staff to achieve excellence in the workplace.

     “This includes among others paying attention to staff welfare issues, training, provision of incentives, deployment of officers in accordance with their educational speciality, and rewarding excellent performance,” said the assistant minister. He called on employees under the ministry to produce excellent results in their respective departments.

He said this would help the ministry, which is responsible for coordinating the implementation of government policies and programmes, to achieve its mandate.

The awards were held under the theme: Delivering quality service for sustainable development: Key towards achieving prosperity for all.Mr Shamukuni advised employees to view the awards as an incentive to perform even better in future.

“Our individual perception towards excellent performance should not denote to receiving awards as an end, but rather as an incentive which aims to improve our work ethics,” he explained.

A number of employees from different departments went home with individual awards for categories such best employee in customer care, exemplary employee, silver jubilee, long service with good conduct and performance-based awards.

Five employees, Ms Ketso Nthule from the Ministry of Presidental Affairs, Goveranace and Public Administration, Ms Lesego Tsebekgale from government printing and publishing services, Ms Gosego Jotia from the office of district commissioner, Ms Omaatla Mosedame from the office of district commissioner, Ms Esther Mmolai from information services and Kebabonye Ranja from the office of district commissioner won the employee of the year award. The award carried P2 500 cash.

The permanent secretary’s award also went to Ms Nthule who won herself P3 000 cash.

The minister’s award went to Ms Mosedame from the office of district commissioner who won herself P3 500 cash.A  community service project team from North West District received the award for the best work-related team for their projects with communities in Xhakoa and Xaixai.

Presidential affairs, governance and public administration permanent secretary, Mr Thuso Ramodimoosi, however, expressed concern at the performance of the ministry.He said performance reviews had revealed that the ministry had not been performing as expected. ENDS
