Matshambo Street Traders Association recently donated 10 waste bins to the Francistown City Council (FCC) to be installed around the city.

Speaking at the occasion, the association’s assistant secretary, Ms Thapelo Amos said the donation came after their realisation that the city was not in a pleasant state.

She said there was litter all over; something she said had a negative impact on the image of city and its ability to attract investors.

Ms Amos said littering did not speak well of them as the community of Francistown, thus there was need to come up with ideas to encourage cleanliness in and around the city.

She said the donation would help to encourage members of the public to use the waste bins correctly and not throw litter all over. She explained that Matshambo Street Traders Association was established in 2009 and had since been engaged in community activities as well as assisting disadvantaged members of the community to restore their dignity. Ms Amos vowed that her association would remain steadfast in giving back to the community.

In his remarks, FCC town clerk Mr Mompati Seleka commended the association for the noble gesture, saying it would help significantly in attracting investors to the city.

He noted that the waste bins would be installed at strategic locations around the city such as the Ramokgwebana bus stop among others, and expectations were that the general public would use them accordingly.

Mr Seleka encouraged other stakeholders to follow suit and join efforts with the council to address some situations. Ends
