Govt patrols repairs cordon fence
07 Jun 2018
Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security Mr Patrick Ralotsia has told Parliament that his ministry patrols and repair damages on the the cordon fence along Mbalambi village.
Answering a question in Parliament Mr Ralotsia said the fence was constantly damaged by elephants especially the section between Picket Nkhwanya and Sabasi.
He also said the fence along the Border Gate and Maitengwe quarantine gate has also been affected by the previous flood and some portions were not accessible due to deep dongas. Mr Ralotsia said that another challenge was vandalism which was rampant between Maitengwe border gate and Maitengwe quarantine gate.
He however said that the fence was generally in a fair condition and the ministry continued to patrol and fix breakages that may occur due to elephants.
Member of Parliament(MP) for Nkange Mr Edwin Batshu had asked the Minister if he was aware that the cordon fence between Botswana and Zimbabwe was in a serious state of despair causing livestock from either country to criss-cross the boundary un-interrupted and if so when would the fence be repaired.
