First lady motivates pupils
07 Jun 2018
First Lady, Ms Neo Masisi has encouraged Chanoga Primary School pupils to take their education seriously in order to shape their future.
Ms Masisi said this during her visit to the school recently, where she informed pupils that education is the key that unlocks the door to all that life has to offer.
She served her Tirelo Setshaba in Chanoga in 1989 and taught Standard Six at Chanoga Primary School.
During her visit, she had an opportunity to meet the school management and also motivated pupils, whom she described as leaders of tomorrow.
Ms Masisi told pupils that education could take them afar and make their dreams come true, hence the need for them to take it seriously and study hard.
She implored pupils to work an extra mile and take all the responsibility towards learning, saying they should never give up even if they meet difficulties along the way.
“Ga e yo kgomo ya boroko, so I urge you to stand up and strive for excellence.
Put all your effort to your studies to shape your future and you should always think positive that you will manage,” she stressed.
Ms Masisi urged pupils to respect teachers, listen to them and do their work all the time without failure. Pupils were also urged to be ambitious, adding that they should think big while still at primary school level.
She also shared with pupils the characteristics of a good learner and urged all to abide by them.
Pupils were advised to have their own role models, whom they could learn from and contribute meaningfully to their community.
The First Lady also urged parents to partner with teachers to produce future leaders of this country and also urged them to participate in Parents Teachers Associations (PTAs).
She revealed that the success of any education system lies on the three layers of people, teachers, parents and the students, adding that it was important for each layer to play its role and bring positive results.
For his part, the school head, Mr Senthue Maoto appreciated Ms Masisi’s visit, noting that she made history.
He informed her that the school had gone through a lot of transformation as they had witnessed more developments.
He said while many schools across the country complained about shortage of accommodation and classrooms in his school, they were blessed and thanked all the relevant authorities who made the learning environment conducive.
Mr Maoto also stated that no students were taught under the trees as was the case in some schools.
He shared some of the challenges the school faced such as the long distances travelled by some students bare footed and without proper school uniform.
He also revealed that lack of computers was a challenge in the school as they had only three old computers, which were donated by some government departments.
Mr Maoto said there was no how education could be separated from technology as the two go hand in hand.
For his part, Maun Administrative Authority chairperson, Mr Moedi Modiegi appreciated the First Lady’s visit to the school, saying it was a move in the right direction to visit the village, which she served during her Tirelo Setshaba tenure.
He also thanked her for motivating the pupils, saying he was optimistic that they would change their mindset and appreciate that people could survive and excel in life with formal education.
“Education plays a vital role in the society as the dynamics of the world have changed,’ he added.
Mr Modiegi also wished Ms Masisi well in her endeavour as the First Lady. ENDS
