07 Jun 2018

Member of Parliament for Francistown West, Mr Ignatius Moswaane has cautioned residents of Monarch against committing cybercrime on social media platform.

Speaking during a kgotla meeting recently, Mr Moswaane shared with the residents the bill that was passed at Parliament, which would prosecute people who abused cyberspace platforms.

He encouraged residents to use social media as a useful tool for businesses such as engaging with audience and boosting website traffic.

A resident in Monarch, Mr Albert Guma had appealed to the youth in Botswana not to abuse cyberspace because most of cybercrimes were committed by them.

He also noted that lack of understanding of cyber security had enabled many people to become victims of cybercrime.

Mr Guma encouraged residents to group themselves and establish companies to be able to sustain themselves.

On other issues, Mr Moswaane said he was aware of the fact that there were no doctors and that there was shortage of drugs in their clinic.

He encouraged residents to continue voicing their grievances regarding their health challenges because everyone had a right to access to medication.

For his part, Kgosi Moses Gunny of Monarch appealed to parents to be involved in the education of their children. ENDS
