Bradlows, a newly opened furniture store in Maun, has donated seven computers and a printer to Boseja Primary School and three more computers to Thuso Rehabilitation Centre in Maun.
Speaking at the handover ceremony recently, Bradlows general manager in Botswana, Mr Yame Kgari said it was his company’s intention to give back to the community of Maun.
“In every area we go, we make sure that we create a good relationship with the communities by donating to them through various institutions and organisations like we did in Maun today,’’ he said.
He said their relationship with the Maun community would go a long way.
Mr Kgari promised that they would continue to help Boseja Primary School and Thuso Rehabilitation Centre to ensure growth of the two institutions and that they succeed in their mandates.
He said they had so far employed 17 staff from Maun as a way of empowering the community they operated in.
Mr Kgari noted that they have 20 branches in Botswana, adding that they would soon open a new store in Shakawe in the Okavango Sub-district.
He said Bradlows was made up of many sister companies such as Pep Store, Dunns, Ackerman’s and many more.
Meanwhile, North West District Council (NWDC) acting chief education officer, Mr Modiri Mosiamemang commended Bradlows for taking part in the education of the future generation.
He said the computers were a technology that would help learners to communicate with the world as well as improve their education qualities.
Mr Mosiamemang said the computers would also help create a good performance for both students and teachers in terms of writing skills and research respectively.
He said the Ministry of Basic Education was open to individuals, organisations and companies to adopt any school in order to help groom the country’s future.
For his part, Maun East Member of Parliament, Mr Kostantinos Markus said government believed and promoted foreign investment so that employment could be created.
Mr Markus said Bradlows had employed over 100 Batswana in different places where they trade, adding that with all their sister companies that came with Bradlows, the company had also employed many Batswana.
He encouraged Bradlows to continue with their good gesture, quoting a verse form the Bible that says, blessed is the hand that gives than the one that receives.”
Mr Markus also encouraged teachers and PTA committee to take care of the computers so that they produce good results.
He said Boseja primary had over the years performed well with results ranging from 81 per cent to 80 per cent in 2016 and 2018 respectively. ENDS
