South East Village Development Committee donates

30 May 2018

South East Village Development Committee (VDC) and Breakthrough Christian Assembly church donated clothes, soap and snacks to the less privileged in Ramotswa.

Ululations and dances that came with enthusiasm kicked out the cold breeze that came from all sides of the hall when the congregation received the word of God from Prophet Vasco Madhlopa as their first gift of the day.

Not only did the Christian Assembly Church bless with tangible things, Prophet Madhlopa also shared the word of God with the congregation.

He urged them to have hope even when they are faced with unbearable circumstances.

Ramotswa VDC chairperson, Mr Batsile Mosiane said they identified 100 people who were in need in Makoloboto ward.

“We chose 40 elderly people, 40 living with disabilities and 20 orphans, most of which are not assisted by the government,” Mr Mosiane said.

Mr Mosiane mentioned that the proposal came up with Prophet Madhlopa of the Breakthrough Christian Assembly church and he ran it through the VDC leadership body, who were receptive and implemented it.

He said that the role of VDC was to help the disadvantaged by building for them, aiding with food and other basic necessities.

He said that this was done mainly to appreciate the elderly since they played a vital role in the community with the knowledge they carry from history.

“Our mothers and fathers are the ones who founded the traditional school, they instill knowledge and wisdom into us and with all these we are able to embrace our culture,” Mr Mosiane said.

Mr Mosiane noted the importance of members of the Ramotswa community coming up with other associations that would take care of the elderly and people with disabilities as there was only one association, which was already congested.

Since winter has now approached, most of the clothing that was donated was warm clothes.

In an interview, Prophet Madhlopa reiterated that giving should be one’s first priority regardless of how little or big the gift might be.

“I come from a disadvantaged background so I understand how painful it is to lack that ii what has also motivated me to take care of needs of other people,” Prophet Madhlopha indicated.

Mr Madhlopa, who hails from Malawi said when he came to Botswana he realised that the government had made it a priority to take care of the needs of the elderly and it inspired him greatly.

He highlighted that the word of God should be used as a greater tool to transform the lives of the people.

Prophet Madhlopha therefore encouraged men of God to join hands in helping those who are underprivileged.

Going forward, Mr Mosiane said that they planned to engage other churches and host such occasions in kgotlas to make it easy for the elderly to attend because it would be nearer to their homes.

He also said that they would appreciate any kind of help from the community in helping those that are in need. ENDS
