Maokane Benefits from Majwe Mining CSI

Majwe Mining Joint Venture (MMJV) has been applauded for its contribution to the development of communities through its Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programme.
Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Alfred Madigele said at the handover of a community hall recently that partnerships the company continued to build with communities around Jwaneng and others elsewhere was a true reflection of public private partnerships that the government was advocating for.
The company and its employees had renovated the community hall for the people of Maokane and to this, Dr Madigele commended MMJV for heeding the call to support government’s efforts to develop the country and its people.
“As we always say, government alone cannot manage to develop and implement socially uplifting programmes alone, hence it needs the support and backing of the private sector,” he said.
Dr Madigele, who is also the Member of Parliament for Mmathethe/Molapowabojang said the community hall would contribute to the development of the performing arts as it would be used for various activities that keep youth away from the streets.
Above all, he said the hall would be used to generate income for the Village Development Committee (VDC) which oversees the development of the village.
For her part, Majwe Mining Finance and IT manager, Ms Sesolo Robert said they renovated Maokane community hall through their staff voluntary initiative, which gives employees an opportunity to use their skills to give back to the community.
She said the renovation was carried out by employees with assistance of residents without engaging any private contractor, which could have been expensive.
“After Maokane Village Development Committee requested us to assist with renovations of their community hall, our employees volunteered to do the work, rather than hiring a construction company,” she said.
She said employees would come over during weekends and together with community members spend the day, painting the building, fitting new windows and doors, replacing rafters and fitting the ceiling, even erecting the fence.
She was optimistic that the hall would be used for its intended purpose and would benefit the community of Maokane.
She also said her company would continue to support them in their dream until they are self-sufficient.
Maokane VDC chairperson Mr Rabakwena said they were thankful for the good gesture that MMJV continued to extend to their village. ENDS
