Govt moves to reduce development gap

27 May 2018

In a move to address unemployment, Vice President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane says government aims to improve the ease of doing business.

Mr Tsogwane said during a kgotla meeting in Mokobaxane on May 25 that government was establishing methods that could make doing business much easier and more convenient.

He indicated that turnaround time; complicated tendering processes which involved too much paperwork, needed to be addressed to enhance ease of doing business.

Government, he said, intended to ensure internet connectivity was accessible country-wide to augment business operation.

The objective, he said was to reduce a huge development gap that existed between urban and rural areas.

He stated that it was critical to connect businesses in rural areas with the market, noting that such could only be possible through accessibility of Information Communication Technology (ICT).

The advantage, he added, was that land was abundant in rural areas and all that would be required would be to install infrastructure and facilities.

Mr Tsogwane appealed to members of the community to tag along with developments, saying they should not remain behind when facilities get upgraded in rural areas.

Boteti, which he said had a lot of farming, could be boosted through ICT and other forms of developments.

Furthermore, he said President Mokgweetsi Masisi wanted people to benchmark from Lobu Trust, which reared sheep that produces wool through Rural Development Council (RDC).

The VP indicated that projects such as salt manufacturing trust in Kgalagadi, Mogobane Irrigation Scheme, among others, were developed through RDC.

In Boteti, the intention was to establish an artificial insemination centre by using the Orapa Quarantine.

The Vice President informed the residents that the Southern cluster water project that covered Rakops, Xhumo, Mmadikola and Mokobaxane was still at tendering stage.

He informed them that tarring of Kedia-Mokobaxane road was not in the development plan, but needed to be graded.

He also acknowledged that children with disabilities were attending schools in areas far from their homes, adding that the issue was being discussed.

He also advised the residents to use constituency funding to embark on projects such as kgotla shelters, guard rooms and toilets.

Vice President Tsogwane was responding to the Village Development Committee chairperson, Ms Sonica Pheya, who had requested a kgotla shelter, tarring of Kedia-Mokobaxane road as well as a rehabilitation school. ENDS
