Kanye Administrative Authority provides social welfare support to students
24 May 2018
Kanye Administrative Authority (KAA) Sub-council chairperson, Mr Tlhomamo Dibeela says his sub-district has registered and assisted 4 844 student beneficiaries with social welfare support in their respective categories.
Mr Dibeela, who is also a councillor for Dilolwe ward in Kanye, revealed this when officially opening the KAA sub-district council session on May 21.
He said the department has been able to provide transport to all targeted beneficiaries during opening and closing of schools as well as for those who go for monthly check-ups.
He however, said some challenges such as lack of cooperation by some students and shortage of transport hampers good service delivery in those areas.
Mr Dibeela noted that following the mass assessment exercise conducted during the last financial year, about 197 clients were terminated from the destitute programme, 59 of whom have appealed against the termination.
He said the sub-council still experiences an increase in reports of child abuse related cases, which calls for more intervention and collaboration with concerned stakeholders.
He said the sub-council still continues to work with village and ward child protection committees to deal with children’s matters in their areas of coverage.
Mr Dibeela said the foster parenting bank would assist in identifying children in abusive environments and those in need of protection and safety.
He further informed councillors that there had been a reduction of schools supplied by the bakery from 10 to four, and an increase in poverty eradication beneficiaries who supply Diphaphatha to primary schools.
Mr Dibeela stated that government continues implementing initiatives aimed at empowering the less privileged and economically disadvantaged members of the community and creating employment.
“We are hoping to see this new development making an impact on the beneficiaries’ livelihoods,” he said.
He further mentioned that in an endeavour to improve access to education, the sub-district has managed to order and is awaiting delivery of six donkey carts for Diabo, Dipotsana, Phutisutlha, Segwagwa and Molapowabojang.
He said this would not only help pupils who walk long distances to schools, but also the donkey cart operators who are paid P1 000 per month. ENDS
