Travel tour Botswanas in-thing

24 May 2018

The myth that Batswana never rest is slowly being shattered as they now frequent various destinations locally or outside the country, more especially during holidays for fun and leisure.

The myth was borne of the fact that one would either go to the lands or cattlepost during hard earned leave days.

Testimony from Ms Vuelwa Rabashima, a logistics and marketing manager at Mothibedi Horizon Tours, is that Batswana now travel a lot because of more affordable packages.

She said lack of travel could have been explained by the fact that in the past, agencies used to charge high fares for the exact packages that are currently provided for less.

Ms Rabashima also attributed much travel to the influence of social media, as it makes it easy to keep up with everyone, know where they went and what they did.

‘This envy is good for our business as people eventually require our services,’ she said.

Moreover, she explained that tour service providers know the type of hangouts and fun places that Batswana like such as all white boat cruises, live bands at the malls and braai sessions.

Besides that, she said packages are designed for all age groups, adding that some December trips can have as many as 140 people.

Ms Rabashima said the clientele they have served in the past have shown great interest in touring and exploring new places. Admitting that local trips can be pricey, especially accommodation and tour sights, she encouraged those who want to visit locally to consider accommodation in secondary schools as they are quite affordable.

One self-confessed adventure junky, Ms Daisy Ipaseng says she travels once or twice in a year.

However, she says before embarking on a trip, she considers a place where many people would love to go, but cannot afford to as well as the beauty of the place through online pictures.

Ms Ipaseng said her main reasons for going on vacation are luxury and to also experience something she has never experienced and to see new things.  She says she has been to Swakopmund in Namibia, Cape Town, South Africa, Goo Moremi and Maun. ENDS
