Meteorological services assists pupils

Principal meteorologist at the Department of Meteorological Services, Mr Radithupa Radithupa has commended his department in Good Hope for donating uniform and toiletry to Segwagwa Primary School to keep pupils warm during the winter season.

Speaking at the handover ceremony recently, he said the team had been engaged in community service over the years, noting that the department had undertaken many community projects in different places such as Malokaganyane and Ngwatsau among others.

He commended the team for exhibiting the pillars of Vision 2036.

For his part, the head of Department of Meteorological Services in Good Hope, Mr Robert Raditlhong said since 2013 they had been doing community service, adding that in 2013 they donated blankets to the Good Hope hospital and that in 2014 they donated second hand clothes to the elderly in Ngwatsau.

“We also built a two-roomed house for the needy at Gamokoto in 2015-2016 as the wellness team,” he said.

He said to continue with the giving spirit, they decided to donate school uniforms to the less privileged pupils of Segwagwa Primary School.

He said the school provided a list of 26 pupils and that 21 of them were bought school uniforms while five were bought toiletry. They also provided a meteorological education session to the pupils.

Those who contributed to the success of the day were staff members who dug deep into their pockets, Pakistan Store in Lobatse and Mustapha’s Centre in Pitsane who donated school shoes.

She also said there were eight trees donated by the Forestry Department in Good Hope, four shade trees and four decoration trees.

For his part, Southern District Council chairperson, Mr Alec Seametso said he was proud of the meteorological services staff in Good Hope for reaching out to the community and showing the spirit of humanity.

He also pledged a blanket to each package of uniform to help the pupils at home as well.

Mr Seametso said the department provided weather information which affected people’s daily lives.

“Weather determines our daily lives, what to wear and what to eat,” he said.

In his closing remarks, Kgosi Isaac Dipuo urged the department in Good Hope to keep up with the spirit of compassion.

He urged the pupils to inform their parents to be prepared for this winter season and to provide them with warm clothing. ENDS
