Good HopeGathwane road construction worries residents

21 May 2018

Kgoro residents have expressed concern regarding the construction of a tarred road from Good Hope to Gathwane.

Speaking during a kgotla meeting with the road construction company, Environmental Stewards, recently Kgosi James Tekanyo said the construction of the road had delayed, and that it had affected residents of Good Hope, Kgoro and Gathwane.

Kgosi Tekanyo said the consultation with the construction company shed light, adding that “we are hopeful as residents of Good Hope, Kgoro and Gathwane that the consultations will bear fruit,” he added.

A representative from Environmental Stewards, Mr Boiki Motswasele said the anticipated 14 kilometre Good Hope/Gathwane road was at design stage, and that they were to consult environmentalists, archeologists and researchers to do the environmental impact assessment study.

He further stated that they were aware that the villages had long waited for the construction of the road. He however said they still had to follow the procedure which included community consultations among others.

“We are here today to consult with the community to ensure that we do not leave anyone behind as this construction will affect all of you,” said Mr Motswasele.

Residents said they were beginning to lose hope as it was taking long before construction could start, adding that the delay had aggravated the problem of lack of transport to secondary schools in Good Hope.

In his closing remarks, Member of Parliament for Good Hope - Mabule constituency, Kgosi Lotlaamoreng II, thanked the consulting team from Environmental Stewards for updating the community on the road progress.

“If this road could be constructed on time, it will shorten the distance we travel from Good Hope to Lobatse,” he said.

He also indicated that the three villages desperately needed the road for developments and to reach other areas in the country. ENDS
