20 May 2018

First Lady Neo Masisi has described children as diamonds that need to be nurtured to ensure they achieve the best in life.

Speaking during a special visit to Machana Satellite Primary School recently, she said children needed to be nurtured to make sure they become the best that they could be in life.

She spoke of the need for children to study hard at school as education was the key to success, adding that they could turnaround the fortunes of the country.

She said education opened doors of opportunities for children, hence it was imperative for them to attain the best results at school.

She said high performance at school attracted material wealth as best employers would be looking for high performers, thus one could be independent.

She added that one could use the knowledge attained at school to read about a good diet and how best to put it into practice.

The First Lady, who is the Patron of the school, had visited and toured the school facilities to appreciate developments made thus far as well as to get first-hand information on how best the school could be assisted.

The satellite school is the brainchild of President Mokgweetsi Masisi, who by the time of inception was the area MP and the Vice President.

She therefore expressed her warm appreciation to all stakeholders who made sure the idea turned into a reality.

The  First Lady challenged parents to partake in their children’s education, noting that children needed support from time to time to ensure they were on the right track.

She said if all stakeholders would work together for the advancement of education, which was a key to development, great things could be achieved.

She expressed gratitude for having been accorded an opportunity to interact with pupils, emphatically pointing out that her heart was with children.

She spoke of the need for the Parents Teachers Association to meet regularly to create an environment for the school to thrive.

The First Lady said the Millennium Development Goals spell out that children or the general populace should not be lagging behind in education as it is a fundamental human right.

She promised that computers would be installed at the end of June to ensure the school is equipped with the requisite resources for education to thrive as they could be used as both learning and teaching aids.

She said the Internet would also be installed in the near future to enhance learning.

The First Lady also donated learning materials to the pupils such as exercise books and pencils as a way of encouraging them to achieve admirable results.

She also donated winter clothing to pupils to cushion them from the harsh weather.

The First Lady had an opportunity to teach pupils good mannerism to obviate the possibilities of having social ills that may bedevil the community in the future.

The Southern District Council secretary, Mr Poloko Mojalemotho said there was need to review the satellite idea as the enrolment was 120, which was way above the threshold for satellite schools.

He said the council was  pondering to have the school turned into an independent one in the financial year 2019/2020.

The school is currently under Pitseng Primary School, for which Machana Satellite houses classes, which would otherwise be at Pitseng. ENDS
