Ralotsia urges residents to take advantage of government programmes

20 May 2018

Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security, Mr Patrick Ralotsia has challenged residents of Moshana to take advantage of available programmes to create wealth for themselves rather than hoping to get handouts from government.

Mr Ralotsia said this when addressing a kgotla meeting in Moshana recently, adding that he was worried that the spirit of self-help was fast fading from the nation.

He said they were fortunate to have a Kgosi who was conversant with socio-economic issues.

Mr Ralotsia also raised concern that some VDCs had been infiltrated by politicians and advised them to refrain from the habit.

Meanwhile, Kgosi Seate Marumo said he was worried that only one youth had so far benefited from the Youth Development Fund in the village despite the fact that he once organised a small stock workshop with a view to stimulate interest for the youth to take advantage of citizen empowerment initiatives.

He said it was unfortunate that the workshop, which was mostly intended for the youth, was largely attended by elderly residents rather than the target group.

On other issues, he criticised Moshana Village Development Committee (VDC) for being inactive, saying some developments had stalled as a result.

Meanwhile, the VDC vice chairperson, Mr Carah Rakgomo complained that they were yet to receive their dues. ENDS
