MP hopeful as economy improves

20 May 2018

Member of Parliament for Ramotswa, Mr Samuel Rantuana says the country’s slow economic recovery has had a negative impact on the development budget.

Addressing Mogobane residents as part of his routine constituency tour recently, Mr Rantuana said it was expected that as the economy improves, some of the development projects that were shelved could be implemented.

He said the budget for projects such as road construction and other infrastructure hadbeen limited.

However, he noted that human capital development remained crucial to the development of the country, noting that when a country’s human resource was developed, some developments would automatically follow.

Mr Rantuana also noted that the community had a role to play in developing itself, adding that parents had the responsibility to mould children into responsible and mature citizens.

He said it was not possible for formal education alone to develop humans, as such household chores were crucial to human development.

Mr Rantuana regretted that teachers spent too much time on issues of discipline, which could be addressed by parents through teaching their children Botho.

Mogobane Kgosi, Serudi Moilwa appreciated the developments in the village such as tower lights, internal roads paving and partial storm water drainage.

The residents however complained about the review of Matimela Act, stating that Matimela should not be sold, but the government should identify the livestock owners and hand them back.

Others complained about poor storm water drainage in the village as well as poor working conditions for security guards.

The District Health Management Team was also accused of overlooking Mogobane residents when filling posts for non-skilled employees. ENDS
