Omaatla Lubinda, who is known as Doba, is ready to give gospel lovers a touch of melodies with her soothing voice.
The former Jam In Christ vocalist said she was inspired by the positive feedback she got from her fans and other artistes she has worked with, hence she decided to go solo.
Doba started her singing career at the age of 15 when her aunt heard her singing and took her for the Jam In Christ auditions, where she wowed the crowd with her voice and was signed to be part of the group.
“Before I knew I could sing, I always loved music because it lightened my mood when I was down and it got me in the right state of mind whenever I needed courage” she explained.
Doba said when she was growing up, she would imitate artistes such as Mariah Carey and Tamia, but would never sing in front of people except for her family.
She performed with Jam In Christ for seven years as a soprano and a soloist and began to learn more about music and had mentors who helped her to be a better singer.
She explained that she learned musical discipline under the guidance of her aunts, who were also part of the group and was also mentored by the musical director of the group, Lesego Mokoka and the award winning artiste,
Tshepo Lesole, with whom she established a brother-sister relationship.
“Tshepo Lesole introduced me to live session recording and it has shown that I could make a living out of it and helped to groom my musical career,” said Doba.
The Mahalapye born artiste said she never looked back and became a backing vocalist for various artistes and still works with High-Note studios directed by Tshepo Lesole.
Doba said she got her inspiration from King David, the man who was after God’s heart in the Bible.
“King David was a worshipper and from what my Bible tells me he had God’s heart in his hand, that is where I want to see myself, at a point where God is pleased with my ministry,” said the bubbly singer.
Doba is currently working with We Must Praise group and pushes herself as a brand and as a solo artiste and will soon work on her album. She promised her fans that they would be blown away by her work.
“I believe that my calling is music and I am going to work hard to make sure I reach out to people through my music because music has power to change people,” she explained.
The optimistic person she is, Doba is ready to face the gospel music industry as she views it as growing and steady.
Doba has worked with local artistes such as Matthews Matsetse, Vusi Mtokufa, Shuggie Fisher and Kagiso Morebodi, among others.
She advised the youth to examine themselves and find their purpose in life and let their purpose make a living for them.
Doba said the youth should give themselves to Christ so that they are not easily deceived by the ‘world’ and to be caught in lawlessness and social ills.
“If you know who you are in Christ and your worth you are likely to pursue your goals and achieve your dreams easily because you have a guide who will take you to greater places” she concluded. Ends
