17 May 2018

Twenty-two-year-old Miss Botswana Bikini Model reigning queen, Karabo Moalosi, who is also the face of Bulawayo Summer, Fashion and Style continues to represent Botswana well in her pageantry and modeling quest.

Speaking in an interview, Moalosi said she was currently the top model and face of the Zimbabwe’s annual Bulawayo Summer, Fashion and Style after winning the elite Face of Summer award that automatically booked her a space to parade at the Style-ology Annual Fashion Show to be held in Mooresville, North Carolina in the United States of America billed for March 2019.

She also said her second international performance would be at the inaugural Diamond Kimberly Fashion week in South Africa this winter.

She said her modelling journey started back in 2015 when she finished in the top five of the Miss Boitekanelo and continued feeding her dream of being a pageant judge by adjudicating the 2016 Ministry of Health and

Wellness, Mr and Miss Public Service followed by Mr and Miss Boitekanelo.

In 2016, she started working with different local photographers as a photography model and did brand promotions, and features in magazines advertising boutiques, brands design and make-up artists.

Moreover, she said she tried enrolling in three local agencies, which did not pay but limited her instead of uplifting her dreams. Nonetheless, she did not succumb as she later decided to stand alone and became a freelance model, which opened many opportunities for her.

She said she faced a number of rejections and tried several local auditions such as the much celebrated Miss Botswana and President’s Day competitions’ modeling category.

Not only did she fail at auditions, Moalosi indicated that at some point of her quest she provided her modeling services for free with the belief that she would get the exposure and the much needed experience to update and enhance her card profile in the industry.

“I started small and I would work long hours and not get paid at the end of it all. In most instances, I was told all the work was for my benefit. Indeed it was because here I am; it paid off but it was not easy then. It took a lot of self-assurance and patience to get where I am and I am grateful for my labour and the bumpy road is finally taking me to my destiny,” she said.

Furthermore, she said the concept of Bulawayo Summer, Fashion and Style was to work with upcoming fashion designers by giving them a platform to showcase their designs and bountiful international exposure.

Therefore, she urged local upcoming designers to be on the lookout as she was currently in talks with the management for possible scouting in the country.

Moalosi, who is also a graduate in health care management, advised young people and aspiring models to wait for the right time, highlighting that nothing comes easy.

“Work hard and bear in mind that connections or no connections you can still make it; believe in yourself, your talents and embrace every opportunity that presents itself. Also for international gigs investigate to make sure they are genuine. Don’t fall victim of human trafficking in the name of adventure and career peak,” she advised. Ends
