Ditsweletse school awards perfoming teachers

15 May 2018

Headmaster of Ditsweletse Junior Secondary School, Mr Nkarabang Nkarabang says the school aspires to be among the top 10 performing schools nationally by 2020.

Speaking at the teachers’ merit award lunch for teachers who produced good results in the 2017 Junior Certificate Examinations recently, Mr Nkarabang said the school also intended to enhance stakeholder involvement and participation to reach its vision.

Mr Nkarabang expressed gratitude to the recipients for contributing immensely to the overall performance of the school of 42.6 per cent for symbols A, B, C compared to 36.1 per cent in 2016.

The average performance of the nine teachers awarded for good performance was 67.1 per cent.

He said one of the disturbing factors fueling bad performance was learners’ indiscipline, noting however, that the school held a boot camp in an effort to combat such a challenge, which yielded a significant improvement.

Therefore, Mr Nkarabang urged the business community to consider a principle of carrot dangling for both teachers and students to better the performance.

He thanked the sponsors of the event for their benevolence and goodwill, noting that Ditsweletse had potential to reach its vision and dreams with support from sponsors.

One of the sponsors, Karowe Mine’s mining manager, Mr Kavis Kario applauded the recipients for their commitment and hard work to produce sterling performance in the 2017 final examinations.

Mr Kario urged them to be competitive and adopt a goal -oriented attitude, adding, ‘today’s success is tomorrow’s target’.

One of the recipients, an art teacher, Ms Nnete Tumane expressed immense gratitude to the organisers’ and sponsors of the event for having found it fit to recognise their hard work.

Ms Tumane noted that education played an important role in opening doors to career opportunities, noting that receiving an award was a result of commitment.

She said it was not the recipients’ accomplishments alone, but many others who were equally deserving for their direct and indirect support, mentioning the school head and other staff members at Ditsweletse.

She said although receiving an award was wonderful, just knowing that they helped a student on their educational journey was reward enough.

Ms Tumane said it was a privilege to go home knowing they made a difference in the community by just being teachers.

The awards were sponsored by Karowe Mine, Thakadu Hotel and Casino as well as Ruffles Restaurant. ENDS
