Harvest flood water
13 May 2018
Residents of Tsokatshaa in Nata/Gweta constituency have requested assistance with means of harvesting overflowing water resulting from floods in the flood-prone area.
Speaking during a kgotla meeting addressed by Nata/Gweta MP Mr Polson Majaga on Tuesday, a resident, Mr Gobeilwemang Peiso said the area was affected by heavy floods annually and while some of the water was retained in the surrounding pans, the rest flowed away.
Mr Peiso noted that in this era of climate change, rain was not a certainty even during rainy seasons which made it imperative that water be harvested and preserved for future use.
He said during the dry season, humans, livestock and wild animals competed for the limited available water.
If the water was preserved, it would be of great use at such times, he said.
Expressing similar sentiments, Village Development Committee Chairperson Mr Bantogetse Butterfly said if water was preserved, they would form syndicates and start irrigation farming thereby creating employment for the village youth.
He also complained about the state of the village’s main road which he said denied them access to services provided at Gweta and Nata.
MP Majaga advised residents to make use of Ipelegeng Programme services to start development projects in the village.ENDS
