South east region rewards officers

Acting executive director of Botswana National Productivity Centre, Mr Teedzani Majaule said organisations need to build the reward culture into their day to day business so as to keep employees motivated.
Speaking at Batlokwa Tribal Administration and the Bamalete Tribal Administration joint excellence awards recently, Mr Majaule said by so doing, employees would feel that their efforts were recognised.
He noted that employees got rewarded because of their behaviour, which could promote productivity and excellence.
“Excellence is not a skill. It is an attitude; an attitude at all times thinks of the customer. An attitude that says I am here for you.
An attitude that doesn’t believe in the famous, the system is down; an attitude that says I can do something even if the system is down,” he said.
Mr Majaule also urged those who got rewarded to re-double their efforts in order to accomplish even greater heights in their performance, as they were being recognised as a sign of encouragement.
He also advised those who were not awarded to introspect and benchmark from those who were recognised.
“All of you are capable of rising up to the challenge. The ball is in your hands and if you do that next year it will be you, as long as you rise up to the challenge and standout to be counted,” he added.
However, Mr Majaule indicated that the challenge of poor work ethic required collective effort to deal with it.
He said the issue had been mentioned as the number one problem in Botswana.
Batlokwa deputy chief, Kgosi Michael Gaborone commended those who were recognised to do more in helping their customers. He also added that such events should be hosted in an open space so that Batswana could witness civil servants being rewarded.
The awards were held under the theme, “Employee integrity and diligence, key to outstanding performance.” ENDS
