Gakgatla Primary School has received school uniform and bicycles worth over P5 000 from Prophet Desmond Khumalo of Faith in Action International Ministries.
The school uniform which includes tracksuits and socks, were presented to the less privileged pupils through the Adopt- A -School initiative on Wednesday.
The five bicycles will be given only to the standard seven learners commuting long distances to school.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony Prophet Khumalo said the reason why he adopted the school was because of the love he had for children and Gakgatla village.
He further said he had a tough upbringing explaining that it was from this experience that he vowed to extend a helping hand to the needy especially children once his life started to get in shape.
“I know what it feels like to go to school without proper uniform or to walk bare footed in winter. I do not want these children to experience what I have gone through and that is why I have opened my heart to them,” he said.
Prophet Khumalo also revealed that it was not the first time he donated to the school as at the beginning of the year he donated stationery worth P1300.
During the handover, the school representative Mr Kagiso Mokgweetsinyana appreciated the donation from Prophet Khumalo stating that it would assist vulnerable learners.
“Such gifts will motivate students to attend school and take their studies seriously. I am calling on others to lend a helping hand through Adopt-A-School initiative as we have learners who are less privileged,” he noted.
For his part Councillor Duncan Ramasiagopana of Gakgatla/Ramaphatle called on parents to be responsible and take their children’s education seriously.ENDS
