Khama applauds Western Masters

10 May 2018

Former president, Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama has emphasised the need to help one another in efforts to help Botswana move forward and realise Vision 2036.

Consequently, he applauded Western Masters Social Club for donating to children and the elderly, saying they were helping the less privileged in different communities around the country.

That was after Western Masters Social Club members, who are mostly natives of Kgalagadi, donated school uniform to all primary school children and blankets to the elderly at a packed kgotla at Kolonkwaneng yesterday.

The club donated 50 blankets to the elderly and P5 000 from the former president towards buying school uniform for the children.

Thus, he urged them to continue doing the good job and encouraged them to contact him whenever they needed help.

Speaking on behalf of the club, chairperson, Lt Col Patrick Mokgolodi indicated that their club started in 2008 as a Sunday football team, but it now boasts of over a hundred members.

He said they eventually decided to change from just being a football team to a social club that would undertake charity work among communities.

He said they started their philanthropic work sometime back in Keng, where they donated toys and school uniform. He added that they continued to give different items, including sanitary pads in other villages across the country.

“Now we are here to donate school uniform and shoes to the children so that they will be able to concentrate on their school work and have good results,” he said.

Also, he said they decided to buy school uniform to all Kolonkwaneng Primary School pupils, instead of just choosing a few.

Thus, he thanked the former president for contributing P5 000 towards the donations and also the area MP, Mr Frans Van der Westhuisen, saying their contributions had abetted them in making their dream a success. ENDS
