Director applauds Area S Ward development Committee
10 May 2018
Area S Ward Development Committee has been commended for projects that will help to revitalise the city’s economy, culture and social lifestyles of the community members after the closure of some economic ventures such as mines surrounding Francistown.
The accolades were delivered by the Director of the Department of Community Development in the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Steven Ludic when officially opening the Ward Development Committee offices, a day care centre and an Internet café recently. Ludic also applauded the leaders of the city, pointing out that it was through their leadership that the projects managed to come to life as they would economically and socially empower the community as they would create employment.
Further, he encouraged the community to guard and utilise the new developments for their intended purposes to avoid them becoming a white elephant.
When giving the overview, Area S Ward Development Committee chairperson, Ms Emma Moatswi said they started the projects back in 2009 with limited funds.
She said they managed to raise funds through fundraising activities and donations from private institutions and from former President Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama and further sourced funds from the city of Genk in Belgium.
She applauded the community of Area S for the dedication and commitment they showed throughout and for every role they played in the completion of the projects.
Deputy Mayor of Francistown, Mr Godisang Radisigo advised Area S Ward Development Committee to lobby for support and security of the facilities from the private institutions.
He further encouraged ward development committees to have a solitude spirit of developing the city and urged the community to support the Internet café and the day care centre for them to grow.
Moreover, he encouraged the ward development committees to benchmark on one another for the development of Francistown. ENDS
