Kgathi commends health workers
07 May 2018
Health workers at Gobojango Clinic have been commended for hosting a health and wellness day with the aim of helping residents to attain good health.
Speaking during the wellness day held under the theme: Universal health care coverage, a former nurse, Ms Betty Kgathi said the day was a demonstration that nurses were committed to ensuring that residents got the best health care in their facility.
She said the day was important for residents of Gobojango, Semolale and Mabolwe and urged them to work hand-in-hand with nurses and other health workers to get the services they rendered.
Ms Kgathi said activities such as wellness days were important because they encouraged people to exercise so that their bodies become active and able to fight diseases that were caused by lack of exercise.
She said the theme was relevant because health services were provided free to citizens. She said people were able to enjoy health services because health facilities had nurses and professionals that were committed to their work.
Ms Kgathi said the Ministry of Health and Wellness took the welfare of citizens seriously, and that where there was shortage of services at government institutions they even refered some patients to private hospitals or outside the country for further examination.
She implored residents to exercise to reduce diseases associated with lack of body activity.
Explaining the purpose of the wellness day, a nurse at the clinic, Ms Thuleleni Madziba said they organised the day to sensitise people about fitness and diseases related to the lack of exercise.
Ms Madziba said if people exercised non-communicable diseases such as obesity and cardiovascular aliments could be avoided.
She said during the wellness day, an array of activities such as tug of war, balloon race and needle race were organised so that they brought laughter to people, saying it has been proven that laughter was also a form of exercise.
Ms Madziba explained that the activity was also arranged to bridge the gap between health workers and clients, saying patients should not fear visiting clinics and hospitals to get services.
During the day there were screens for cervical cancer as well as a dental clinic, a malaria stall, an eye clinic, family planning, safe male circumcision, screening for tuberculosis, HIV testing, random blood testing, blood pressure and alcohol and substance abuse stalls.
Ms Madziba commended Saverite Bobonong, Choppies Bobonong, Sebata Kgomo Lodge, Kesia General Dealer and some residents that supported the hosting of the event.
For his part, Assistant Superintendent Simon Mogotsi of Gobojango Special Support Group also commended the various committees such as the village extension team, Village Development Committee, members of BDF and SSG for working hand-in-hand with the health committee to host the event. ENDS
