Expect more from new leadership - Tsogwane
07 May 2018
Vice President and Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) chairperson, Mr Slumber Tsogwane has informed Batswana to expect a lot from the new leadership since there was a plan to review the party manifesto to see what could be improved for the benefit of the nation.
Speaking at a BDP rally in Maun on May 5, the Vice President said the party was renewed and now had President Mokgweetsi Masisi at the helm and a new Cabinet.
“You should expect a lot from this renewal as he has a lot in the pipeline to implement,” he stated.
Mr Tsogwane said government was committed to promoting rural development adding that such had already started in the Kgalagadi District.
He said it was important to have the Rural Development Council visible in all areas including the delta because government had a deliberate plan to empower and uplift the livelihoods of rural area communities.
However, he said rural development was a multi-dimensional process which included among others, provision of services, enhanced opportunities for income generation and local economic development.
Developing rural livelihoods, Mr Tsogwane said was key towards improving the country’s economy.
He said BDP was consistent and authentic and urged the nation to rally behind it as 2019 general elections approached.
Mr Tsogwane pleaded with Maun West electorate to vote for the party’s parliamentary candidate, Mr Reaboka Mbulawa who was unopposed in the recent primary elections.
Mr Mbulawa is expected to compete against the Umbrella for Democratic Change, vice president Mr Dumelang Saleshando who is also the leader of Botswana Congress Party.
However, the party chairperson urged the electorate to shy away from opposition parties as they were not authentic on their promises.
He said the BDP recruitment drive strategy was working wonders as the party continued to welcome new members from the opposition and urged youth to keep on recruiting their peers.
Ngami constituency MP, Mr Thato Kwerepe concurred that government had done a lot to improve the livelihoods of the communities.
Mr Kwerepe also the Assistant Minister of Basic Education talked about several commissions which were conducted in the past to shape the education sector saying efforts were visible with 45 pre-schools constructed across the country.
He said they had introduced the multiple pathways initiative where learners could choose from the curriculum subjects in which they were doing well.
For his part, Mr Mbulawa urged the youth to be vibrant in their efforts to take the party to greater heights.
He said they should refrain from activities that could ruin their future such as indulging in alcohol and drug abuse and advised them to strive to bring change in their respective areas and not be seen to be opposing government initiatives.ENDS
