'Chebajena is a cattle post'

The Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso has told Parliament that she is not aware that Basarwa residing in Boteti are unable to cultivate their land due to resource constraints for fencing and drilling boreholes for potable water.

Answering a question, Ms Tshireletso said Chebajena is a cattle post (moraka) and as such there is not much ploughing in that settlement.

That being the case, she pointed out that fencing of masimo through cluster fencing programmes and drilling of boreholes and any assistance can be sought through existing government programmes such as Integrated Support Programme for Arable Agricultural Development (ISPAAD) and Livestock Management and Infrastructure Development (LIMID).

Ms Tshireletso said that any form of individual contribution is required adding that where such people have been assessed to be incapable of making such contribution, council normally assists with such contributions.

MP  for Boteti North Mr Slumber Tsogwane had asked the minister if she is aware that Remote Area Dwellers in particular Basarwa are not cultivating their lands due to lack of resources to fence and drill boreholes for potable water citing Basarwa at Chebajena. ENDS
