Good relations between leaders officers crucial

07 May 2018

Assistant Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services Mr Itumeleng Moipisi has emphasised the importance of healthy relations between leaders and their subordinates when it comes to efficient service delivery.

He further noted during the ministry’s mini convention in Francistown recently that it was crucial for leaders to seize the opportunity to demonstrate to officers that they were valued and that their welfare comes first.

He said the strength of a leader was derived from the amount of support they get from those they lead.

“It is our duty to create an environment where each member of staff is allowed the opportunity to be their best.

And to be the best, officers need to be placed on their roles according to how best their talents are suited to the job they are expected to do,” he said.

Mr Moipisi also implored participants to be observant of the performance standards that have been set so that they satisfy the demands of the customer.

He added that it was important to avoid delays, but instead thrive to be more flexible, responsive, efficient and effective.

“We will continue to devise new ways through which we could capacitate our members of staff to perform at acceptable levels of excellence.

However, we will also keep on introducing new improvements to the existing platforms which have proven to be efficient at getting the best out of our employees,” he said

Mr Moipisi further stated that team work and building partnerships through meaningful collaborations with other key stakeholders was important in order to deliver the ministry’s mandate.

He however noted that a lot of work needed to be done in order to deliver quality service to clients as the scoring on the anti-corruption scoreboard was unsatisfactory.

In response to the minister’s words, a member of the land tribunal in Gaborone, Mr Gordon Letsoge acknowledged that every department faced different challenges.

However, he added that the most important thing was the ability to learn from past experiences when fighting corruption. ENDS
