Recognising employees performance important

South East South sub-district council official, Mr Kedirileng Gaboipewe has emphasised the need to recognise employees for good performance.
Speaking at the South East South sub-district council staff performance awards in Ramotswa recently, he said employees needed to be appreciated and recognised for their work.
He said when such happened, productivity levels increased.
The awards were held under the theme: Rewarding performance, enhancing productivity and excellence in the workplace.
Drawing from the theme of the event, he said it was important to recognise, acknowledge, appreciate and applaud good efforts for individual employees and also to reinforce positive behavior towards work.
Mr Gaboipewe said from way back, the country had been faced with a challenge of the need to improve staff performance, and as a result, in 1999, government introduced performance management system to improve performance in the public service.
He said government wanted to ensure that the public service would among other things deliver, improve and sustain productivity at all levels of the public service.
Furthermore he said it was aimed at inculcating a culture of performance and accountability in the public services.
He also encouraged employees to apply the public service charter at all times and go an extra mile in helping customers.
For his part, JO Speaks managing director and lecturer at the University of Botswana, Mr Kgomotso Jongman said for an individual to attain excellence, they needed to have a clear vision about themselves.
Mr Jongman further said employees should make a workplace also a home place, to fulfill their purpose.
Further, he said south east had many opportunities which could be turned to generate income and to reduce unemployment and poverty.
For his part the South East South sub-district council secretary, Mr Montshware Gabonthone said they were holding the awards ceremony for the first time in the sub-district. ENDS
