Rannowane aims to restore trust in the judiciary
02 May 2018
President Mokgweetsi Masisi has sworn in Justice Terrence Rannowane as the new Chief Justice at the Office of the President on May 1.
Justice Rannowane, who had served the judiciary for over 27 years, vowed that he shall truly serve the Republic of Botswana and exercise justice in accordance with the Constitution of Botswana and the Laws of Botswana without fear, favour, affection or ill will.
In an interview, 55-year-old Justice Rannowane, who takes over from Justice Maruping Dibotelo, said his aim was to build a solid and united judiciary that would provide quality judicial service efficiently and effectively to the people.
Justice Rannowane, whose portfolio included his appointment as chairperson of the Delimitation Commission, charged with the assessment and delimitation of Parliamentary Constituencies in 2013 as well as the chairperson of the National Parole Board, said his new role gave him the opportunity to restore trust in the judiciary arm of government.
To achieve this, he said it was pertinent to iron out the relationship between the media and the judiciary.
“It is important to have an open and transparent relationship with the media. We will avail facts to close out any rumours,” he said. ENDS
