Gaoforwe ekes living through deejaying

The love for Disc Jockey (DJ) has earned an administration officer a job he enjoys most.
After completing BGCSE in 2009, Otshepilwe Gaoforwe, 27 could not stop pursuing his dream of becoming a DJ.
Letlhakeng-born, Gaoforwe aka DJ Mximbi said in an interview that his love for deejaying started under the mentorship of his friends, Momphiti Moipolai ‘DJ Black’, Thatayaone Mokopi ‘DJ Jigo’ and Thebeyame Keogaile ‘DJ Teblesz’.
“These guys helped me every time I was on stage with some basics,” he said.
Gaoforwe said after relocating to Kang from Letlhakeng, he met with some DJs such as Oarabile Kethaetse ‘DJ Hank’ and Maakanyo ‘DJ Max’ Pasi who invited him for a slot at a local bar to up his skills.
“I have long heard about their popularity and the next day they invited me for a slot, which I never resisted,” he said.
At first, he said he did not know that one could earn a living through becoming a disc jockey, a job that currently earns him P2 500 per event.
To date, Dj Mximbi said he had been invited to participate at events like Mr and Miss Bakgalagari, Inalegolo Horse Race and Chez Ntemba VIP Lounge at Namibia.
“Back in 2015, I tried my luck in the President’s Day Competitions at Ghanzi and Kgalagadi Region respectively and got position three out of 28 deejays, which made me proud as I was a learner,” he added.
He is now a resident DJ and part-time manager at Emaoitseele Liquor Restaurant. ENDS
