Mogojwe launches Naledi Confessions

26 Apr 2018

Radio-journalist, Rorisang Mogojwe launched her first book titled, Naledi Confessions on April 24.

The book chronicles the lives of three young women who lose themselves in their self-discovery journey as they come across a lot of social ills such as love, depression, drug and alcohol abuse among others.

The book is based on real-life events highlighting issues that face many youth in Botswana and also touch on some of the author’s real-life experiences such as her battle with depression.

Not only is the book meant to entertain and educate, it is also meant to strike dialogue, which she hopes will lead to the implementation of innovative solutions to some issues.

Mogojwe said her motivation to write the book came up from the realisation that many Batswana were hungry for reading. She started writing short stories on her Facebook page, which gained her a huge following.

Her followers would demand more stories from her, forcing her to write on a daily basis. That was when she decided to write a book.

Gaborone mayor, Kagiso Thutlwe applauded Mogojwe for taking a bold step in turning her passion for writing into reality. He said she was an inspiration to women and the youth alike to live the best out of their lives from their talents.

He noted that in an era where young people spent most of their times on their phones, especially on social media, it was commendable for a young woman to defy this norm and write a book.

Thutlwe said Botswana had a lot of infant, untapped industries that could contribute immensely to the economy of the country.

“It is high time young people who have a passion for writing to establish themselves as professional authors and make money out of their passion for writing,” he said.

Commenting on the book, Thutlwe said the Naledi Confessions was a ‘win for the literature lovers’, with a very dynamic story line that would relate well to its readers.

He said the social ills narrated in the book were a true reflection of what was happening in real life, and that made it an enjoyable read.

He implored everyone to take a leaf from Mogojwe’s book in trying to address issues facing youth in Botswana and also take part in taking care of them as they are future leaders of the country.

The book retails at P150 and will be available in all book stores across the country soon, as well as on digital platforms such as amazon.com. ENDS
