Cultural festival goes beyond borders

The Annual Northern Letlhafula Cultural Festival to be held April 28 at EBAT Lodge in Tatisiding, is expected to attract visitors from as far as India and Europe.


This was stated by the main host and EBAT Lodge general director, Ogomoditse Maruapula in an interview with BOPA.


The cultural festival will be marking its 11th year of existence.


 The festival, which has been focusing only on showcasing local cultures will this time around, give other Africans a platform to showcase their cultures.


 “For this year’s celebration, we will be different and interesting as we have decided to embrace other African cultures,” Maruapula stated.


He said this would be a way to show appreciation to other Africans residing in Botswana, make them feel at home and welcomed and in the process, promote cultural tolerance, cultural sustainability, cultural diversification and promote peace and tranquility among Africans.
Countries expected to participate include Ghana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi and Kenya.


Maruapula said preparations for the event were going smoothly and encouraged communities from all walks of life and all ages to turn up for the event.


Activities for the day will include viewing of stalls as well as education on cultural produce by the elderly. Traditional cuisine will also be available.


There will also be traditional games such morabaraba, diketo and koi. ENDS
