GCC recognises achievement of employees

It is important to recognise and appreciate outstanding work of employees at all times as this motivates them and encourages them to continue performing to their level best, Gaborone City Council town clerk, Mr Mpho Mathe has said.
Speaking during the council’s 2017/2018 excellence awards themed: Taking pride in excellence achievement, Mr Mathe said the theme was relevant as the city council strived to produce good results.
“It is important to appreciate employees for what they have achieved because when they are appreciated, they will continue working hard thus producing good results,” he said.
Mr Mathe urged employees to work hard because the amount of work that they do would be a measure of their success. He further encouraged them to go an extra mile to make a personal achievement so that Batswana could benefit. “I congratulate those who have done an outstanding job and for those who will not receive awards, don’t despair but rather work hard so that next time you can be recognised,” he said.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the head of public sector at First National Bank, Ms Mabedi Maripe said excellence awards created a results-oriented culture among employees and instilled a yes attitude among all employees. She explained that it was important to recognise the good work done by employees as success did not come easy, but took determination and commitment to achieve the set goals. “Those who will not receive awards, don’t despair but soldier on and I encourage healthy competition among employees,” she said.
The four categories which were awarded included the best council committee, special performance, ward development committee and long service and good conduct. Position one for ward development committee was scooped by Tlogatloga ward development committee, best performing department was scooped by social and community development while long service, 35 years in service and without disciplinary hearing and good conduct went to Mr Victor Molutsi, Mr Oabona Masigo, Mr Joseph Mphafe and Ms Tirelo Mantu among other award recipients.
