The Commander for the Second Brigade group in Francistown, Brigadier Joseph Seelo has confirmed that this year the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) will commemorate its annual BDF day celebrations in Gaborone only, hence the decision to take BDF to the community.
Speaking in an interview on the sidelines of Mr and Miss 2 brigade group beauty pageant recently, Brigadier Seelo stated that they had engaged in various fund raising activities such as the beauty pageant adding that funds raised would be used to help the less privileged children in Mabesekwa.
He noted that a number of students in Mabesekwa will receive school uniforms and the school will receive office equipment which includes fax machines and printers.
He further stated that during BDF day, they would host a career fair in Mabesekwa as a way of taking the BDF to the people.
"Like any government department, we are also encouraged to give back to the community that we serve," he added.
The judging during the pageant was focused on walk, posture, eye contact, appearance and attire as well as use of stage by contestants.
At the end of the pageant, Private Gorata Selato was crowned Miss 2 brigade group alongside Lance Corporal Bokamoso Gabadise.
The winners walked away with various prizes amongst them queen sized beds, braai stands, vehicle hampers, P4000 gift voucher and a weekend away. ENDS
